Available in book form since 1995, Tesoros del Espiritu
is now available as well on compact disc. This unique anthology
includes folk songs, poetry, history, and drama. Commissioned by the
Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe and produced by
musicologist Jack Loeffler, the recordings are a permanent audio
installation in the museum.
Tesoros del Espiritu is the first compilation of New Mexico folklore to emphasize the Indo-Hispanic culture of the region. Thematic sections feature material from the colonial period, mestizo cultural heritage, spiritual traditions, occupational folklore, a complete life-cycle panorama, and a section on contemporary folk life. Each selection is preceded by useful introductory material. The book is illustrated with photographs by Miguel A. Gandert.
